Volunteers

Due to an overwhelming response from generous people the volunteer applications have now closed. Thank you to those who have registered.

Volunteers play an integral role in the success of this event and your support is greatly appreciated. You will be providing a wonderful service to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, ensuring that the teachings are enjoyable for all in attendance.

Volunteer duties
Please remember that as a volunteer, you may not have the opportunity to hear the teachings. Not every volunteer position will be in the teaching hall or the shrine room. Even volunteers who will be working in the teaching space, will still be 'on duty' and may be called upon to do various tasks as required.

Volunteers may be asked to assist with set-up before the event and clean-up after it. As a volunteer, we ask that you remain flexible and willingly 'in service'.
  • Long-term volunteers. These are volunteers who wish to join our team early, from October 2012, as we prepare for the visit in June 2013. The skills we need on this team include computer efficiency (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel), experience in an office environment (preferable) and good communication skills. Tasks would typically involve checking and distributing emails, undertaking general correspondence, answering the office telephone, assisting with online registrations and managing data.
  • Short-term volunteers. These are volunteers who would join the team during the visit in order to assist at the event on 19 June 2013. You will need to attend volunteer training prior to the visit. Examples of the skills we need for those wishing to assist at the event are: managing the entry of attendees, ushering, organising staging requirements, caring for Sangha and VIPs, monitoring and maintaining security, and dispersing information at allocated booths.
All volunteer opportunities will span a wide variety of assignments. Many of the assignments will be inside the event venues, but there is a need for volunteers to assist outside the event venues too. Your assignment may change depending on need and you may be rotated through multiple assignments during your shift.

Volunteer training
All volunteers will be required to attend a mandatory training session (including OH&S) prior to the event. Your participation in this informative training session is essential and enables your success as a volunteer.
